Teaching Poem I Wonder

Posted: May 14, 2011 in My Work Field
Poem is always a boring topic for most of my students. So, I tried to change my approach to fish their interest in learning poem. While teaching the poem I wonder by Jeanie Kirby, I tried to employ choral speaking, instead of reciting it traditionally. It was somewhat a competition to find which group that could choralize the poem creatively.
The students were always interested to compete with each other, especially when there was a prize waiting for the group winner. They were divided into four groups, and were given 20 minutes to memorize the poem and to practice their choral speaking.
It was funny indeed, to see some of those introverts were shaking whenever all eyes were scrutinizing them. Some did well some not, but I hope they enjoyed the session. Learning English should be fun!
